NoScript is one of the most appreciated extensions by Firefox users that seek to protect their systems when surfing the net. Thanks to to this extension it’s possible to block the execution of all kinds of incrusted scripts in any web page, avoiding suspicious websites to execute coding in our system if we enter. Due to the functioning of this extension, making it compatible with WebExtension format almost implicates its complete rewriting, including the help APIs from Mozilla.Nevertheless, what seemed like it was going to take months to arrive, hasn’t taken more than a couple days, and that’s how NoScript 10 just landed.
NoScript 10 is the new version of the wanted accessory for Firefox that, currently, functions on the native format WebExtension. The developer not only didn’t have time to launch it in time with Firefox 57, but also, the developer saw it very complicated to update it to the new format due to the limitations to access the resources, having to wait until Firefox 59, and the new API specialized for it, and the company.
to the surprise of many, NoScript 10 is now available in the Mozilla extension store making it so that users of Firefox 57,and of any later version of the search engine, can make use of them without any problems, despite
the limitations, that, for example, don’t function in the Android version of the search engine or on the private navigation mode.
The users that still have the extension installed, despite not being able to use it, will receive this version automatically, and their rules and configurations will be maintained, although it’s recommended to check them once updated to the new version. The users that still don’t have the extension installed, can now install it from the Mozilla extension store.
Some limitations of NoScript 10 for Firefox 57
Even though this extension already functions on the WebExtension format in Firefox 57, It’s not an exact copy of the previous version due to the limitations of this new extensions format based on the former XUL format.
Despite the developer working with Mozilla to be able to implement all the functions and characteristics utilizing APIsto offer exactly the same functions of before, NoScript 10 still have some limitations, like, for example, the blocking of content and the protection against XSS, that, even though being compatible with this new version, won’t be implemented until Mozilla adds the new APIs to the search engine.
The settings option are also different. Meanwhile the white list (included for defects with various domains that can’t be erased)and black list, like how the option to admit the scripts globally or erase the white list of XSS is shown on the renovated settings menu, other options like ClearClick or ABE are not available yet.
Even though they have various things to improve, at least the users of Firefox 57 can continue using their favorite extension. The main developer of the already mentioned, also, has assured that he will continue maintaining the 5.x version of NoScript at least until the launch of Firefox 59 ESR, the next version of extended support will arrive mid 2018.that way, the users that don’t like this new extension can still utilize the classic version if they still use Firefox 52 ESR or other alternative search engines, like Pale Moon.
